Alex Bowlds, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, initially received a Bachelor of Nursing Science (BSN) degree from the University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing in 2011. He worked as a Registered Nurse until he earned a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from UK in 2020. He was board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) in 2020. He served the University of Kentucky’s Family Medicine department as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) for over two years before joining Modern Dermatology to begin a long-desired career in Dermatology. Alex will be practicing at our Paris and Richmond locations and is committed to providing quality care to Kentuckians of all ages. “In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time with family, friends, his two dogs, and listening to live music.”

Sarah is a licensed nurse by the Kentucky Board of Nursing, specializing in dermatology and nursing aesthetics. With over a decade of experience in dermatologic care, she began her career as a medical assistant in 2012, later earning an associate’s degree in nursing from Bluegrass Community and Technical College and a bachelor’s degree from Northern Kentucky University. Since 2017, Sarah has played an integral role at Modern Dermatology, where she applies advanced aesthetic nursing techniques alongside a compassionate, patient-centered approach to support her patients in achieving optimal skin health and confidence.

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys an active lifestyle with her husband, their two daughters, and two dogs. She loves watching baseball, playing golf, hiking, and renovating homes. Janie McQueen, RN, BSN has worked for Modern Dermatology of KY & Cosmetic Specialists since January 2004. She works exclusively in the Cosmetic office providing laser and injection treatments. Janie graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Nursing.

Janie is licensed and certified by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and has her certification from IAM laser. She is also trained and certified to inject, with needle or cannula, fillers Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, VolumaXC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Ultra XC, and also Botox, Dysport, and Kybella. Janie won a national award as RealSelf’s most-loved injector in 2018. Janie is additionally trained and certified on many lasers, including BBL Photorejuvenation, Arctic peels, Skin Tyte I and II, and the Halo hybrid laser. She’s experienced in laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal, removal of unwanted pigmented lesions, and removal of unwanted vascular lesions or spider veins with lasers. Janie loves the fact that she is able to help make her patients look and feel better about themselves.

In her spare time, she enjoys working out at the gym, listening to music, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is a Lexington native and has been married to Albert since May of 1982. Albert is an attorney in Lexington, and together they have 2 children: Brad, a Chef, and Caitlin, an attorney in Louisville. Janie is one of 7 children, all born within 8 years. Growing up, she and her siblings all played a musical instrument. She played the viola. At times the group of kids would entertain guests at home and were not only an orchestra together, but also a kickball team.

At Modern Dermatology You can find me doing aesthetics on Tuesdays, and medical/surgical assisting in our MOHS skin cancer surgery department the remainder of the week.

I’ve been a licensed advanced aesthetician for 6 years. I have continued my education through additional trainings and certifications over the years to stay up to date on the newest products and treatments offered. I am passionate about spending time with my clients 1:1 to get to know them and their concerns/goals to help them look and feel their best.

I am a small-town girl Born and raised in WV. Lexington has brought the city to my life the over the past 3 years. I am an animal lover, a devoted friend, a huge fan of iced coffee, and I am currently pursing my RN degree.
